ParticipantLet’s face it. With the money we’ve made from the cup run, most of the players know they’ll be gone at the end of the season. Thus, there’s no point risking an injury when there’s a cup payout waiting at the end of the week to tide them over while they hunt for some other gullible club during the summer. I’m certain this is why the standard of play collapsed before West Ham and why it’s collapsed again before Millwall.
If WD wants a victory Tuesday night his only chance is to put out a second eleven… those with no chance of playing Saturday… They at least will do their best, and who knows? If they play out of their skins it would serve our ‘first’ eleven right to miss out on Saturday’s payout.
With relegation all but certain (I tried to find another team that had dug itself out of such a hole at this stage of the season and couldn’t), it matters not what WD tries because it couldn’t be any worse.
After his emotional outburst post-Burton, I do begin to wonder if he too might say enough is enough and go back to India. Personally, I’d like to see what he can do in L2 with his own picks.
Oh for a Vinnie and a Bash and a Wise. Some of us may hark back to a time that was different, but a ball is a ball and it’s still the same set of rules (just).February 12, 2019 at 3:18 am #14213Windlesham Don
ParticipantThe second 45 minutes on Saturday was possibly the worst I have witnessed since 2002 – no heart, no desire and no ability. We were an utter shambles.
Terrell Thomas was rightly awarded the MotM, but the sad fact is that he stood out solely because he could control the ball and pass it to another player in blue. That was enough to comfortably claim the ‘accolade’.
There is something rotten at the heart of this squad – they can feather their own nests (or wallets) with a brilliant performance against West Ham, sandwich this between spineless performances against Fleetwood and Burton where little bonus cash was on offer.
Wally and Glyn will have a huge task in the summer, cutting out the deadwood and putting together a squad capable of being competitive in League 2. Whether they will have the desire, or indeed the ability to do it remains open to question. Some of our fans appear to have forgotten just how tough the drudgery of League 2 is – hours of ‘hoofball’ on some lousy pitches, officiated by the worst of the men in black…
The new management team have their experience in the Premier League, Championship and youth teams, I doubt that their black book of potential signings runs to players who are going to dig the team out of trouble on a cold winter night on a cabbage patch in Newport!
I fear that next season will be real struggle to retain our league place. I hope I am wrong…

Singapore DonParticipantI can only echo all the gloomy comments of my fellow long suffering Dons fans here – Saturday was truly dreadful and yet another nadir in what seems like a long list of low points over the past couple of years. It was a shocking performance, shocking in how bad it was and shocking in being such a surprise after the inspired performances against West Ham and Sunderland. Wagstaff and Wordsworth were non existent, certainly in the second half, our seemingly reignited midfield failing to fire up at all. Our lack of cutting edge up front was sorely exposed yet again. Pigott, as he’s been for a while, was wooden and useless. He is clearly not a League One striker, and I wonder whether he’ll cut it in League Two. He lacks any movement or speed to really cut it.
I share Windlesham’s concern about our fate next season. Hopefully Wally’s contact book does extend to the lower leagues, but he failed to work any managerial magic before Fleetwood or Burton. Where is the fight and passion that he was supposed to bring and inspire? We may have a glimmer of hope of FA Cup glory to keep us going for a few more days – but these really are dark days for our club.

Singapore DonParticipantAny WDSA Wombles in Adelaide? I’m heading downunder in a couple of weeks to chill for ten days in the Adelaide Hills and Harwicke Bay. Going with wifey for silver wedding anniversary, but I’m sure I’d be given a pink slip for a couple of beers. Mind you, you may not want to hear the first hand the plentiful stories of Wombles’ woe in Wimbledon….

ParticipantSingapore. I think any fellow Adelaide wombles may need a few beers to dull the pain of any “tales from KM” this season. Enjoy yourselves.

liamwimboParticipantHey Pete, I live in Adelaide so yes we must meet up. What dates will you be here.
As for the Dons, they seem like Dr Jekell and Mr Hyde. Just seen the highlights of the win at Walsall. The team looked impressive and apparently should have won by a bigger margin.
But my brother was at the Burton game and his one word summation was “Painful”!
Away form is slightly better than the home form. Does that mean we will have a brighter future at New Plough Lane?
Look forward to catching up soon. -
