The stats don’t lie: 2 points in 33. Nine defeats in eleven. Shockingly bad and at any other club there would be repercussions. Today for historic reasons was a really depressing day leaving so many with a sharp sense of being rock bottom. Without change, relegation looks more and more likely. I can’t see this lot doing a Great Escape 2. The sad…[Read more]

This was the must win game: for our season, for our pride. An historic day – and we failed. A dark day in the history of AFC Wimbledon, probably our lowest point. No ideas, no leadership, on or off the field. Each and everyone at AFCW is forever tarnished with this day of ignominy. The disgrace and shame will forever be a scar on all. This may…[Read more]

It’s not the hope that kills. It’s the inconsistency.

Hello all – long time no speak. Hope all are well. After a summer of solid work, the football is back and time to brush off the writing cobwebs!
I’m motivated to put fingers to keyboard again after watching our impressive win over Charlton last night. Has Glyn Hodges at last got together a squad in his mould, capable of giving us a season of…[Read more]

Another excellent Colum, thank you. Your conclusion is spot on.

Excellent summary of the SGM Windlesham. I went to the meeting last night in gloomy mood, and left more depressed than when I went. My takeout is that the club is seemingly irreparably split down the middle on external investment vs fan ownership. The situation is as fundamentally divisive as Brexit. Such is the deeply entrenched passion and…[Read more]

So life is as depressing on the field as it is off it. Throwing away another two points through terrible defending again. And against the woeful bottom of the table team. As I wrote in the latest newsletter, this current squad lacks the fight and spirit to see games out. It’s so depressing. Gutless and incompetent. Supporting Wimbledon these d…[Read more]

Sorry Colum, but I beg to differ. Appiah was perfectly positioned to execute an excellent header and score a top drawer goal. He’d been a niggly nuisance to the tiring Lincoln defence, and we should put aside preconceived views on him and give credit where it’s due. It was a great header, and certainly not mistimed.
Perhaps our new manager des…[Read more]

Delighted that Glyn has said yes to the job. I was really impressed when talking to him at a club do earlier this year: intelligent, articulate and inspirational. Neal and Wally, both still club legends, ended up unfortunately each in their turn dividing the fan base. Glyn feels like a unifying figure, someone who can bridge the divisions that…[Read more]

Well that was a entertaining game. We weren’t great in this EFL Trophy game, and were let off the hook by Orient’s woeful finishing. 3-0 rather flattered us. Delaney was good in defence, but Kalambayi had an off day. Reilly poor first half, but very good second half and well taken goal. Osew and Wags again strong down the wings. Sanders exc…[Read more]

First half elation, second half deflation, final whistle relief. In the end, a big “phew” win.
A new air of optimism preceded this must win fixture, with a team sheet that had real promise and reflected what so many in the stands had been calling for in recent weeks. A midfield with Wordsworth and Sanders at its heart, together with Wagstaff and…[Read more]

No sooner had I written of no prospect of anything changing, and the club announces that Wally Downes has been suspended after being charged by the FA for betting misconduct. Perhaps Glyn Hodges can now turn around our fortunes! Peterborough has a new interest….

Fortunately I had a couple of weeks off the misery of following the Dons, with a wonderful holiday in Zambia – only to return to see us beaten 1-3 at home by Bristol Rovers. It was a strange experience.
Forss’ goal was superb, but I felt little euphoria, expecting the inevitable reversal to come. At the final whistle, I just felt numb, and I…[Read more]

It was indeed a welcome, surprising and uplifting end to the day yesterday, with the positive news on both the transfer and stadium fronts. We’ve been bereft of such moments for pretty well the whole of the season so far. I can’t think of any time yet since we kicked off against Rotherham when any Wombles day has ended with good cheer and a…[Read more]

The morning after the night before, and it feels no better. That 95th minute defeat at Ipswich really was a kick in the proverbial, after what had been 80 minutes of probably our best football this season. We controlled the first half, playing some really decent football, passing it quickly and sharply, small triangle passages of play, closing…[Read more]

Very happy to have enjoyed a great day of Ashes test cricket at Lords rather than have endured yet another serving of frustration at KM. I’d forgotten what it was like to have fun at a sporting event! Hard to see it happening any time soon for us Dons fans 🙁

In the end I decided I would go to support my team and endure the awfulness of having to watch an opposition which should not exist and which makes me sick to the core. The unspeakables in the away stand were quite simply unbearable. I will never set foot in the thieves’ place up north, but I will support my team at home whatever the horror show…[Read more]

Windlesham, I share your thoughts on Hartigan starting. As I said, I was surprised he was chosen over Wagstaff – but as you say, WD seems to have something against him. Like the rest of the team, Hartigan was missing in the first half – our whole midfield was invisible. But I thought he did ok against a big, physical team in the second half -…[Read more]

And so the season starts – with a juddering end to our undefeated run hanging over from last season. This was always going to be a very high mountain to climb, facing a strong Rotherham team tipped for promotion straight back to the Championship, with eleven players all well over six feet tall. After 45 minutes of Men against Boys, it looked like…[Read more]
