STEVE SEDDON is our WDSA Player of the Season. Seds, signed for just a season in his third spell for the club, was the standout winner based on votes.

He had a remarkable campaign: he started in all 46 league games for a total of 4,107 playing minutes (4,604 minutes across all competitions) with a goal, eight assists and according to FotMob he created 79 scoring chances, of which 15 were counted as big chances.

His ever presence and reliability were his hallmarks along with his tigerish committed displays, including constant marauding down the left wing.

Seddon tallied 66 votes — 11 major votes—to beat home  Marcus Browne (35) and Ryan Johnson (31).

So it was with delight and relief that Seddon, at 28,  has agreed to stay on at Wimbledon for at least one more season, maintaining some stability in the defence. That hasn’t always been the case with past WDSA Players of the Season. Some have left after their outstanding seasons, but this time Steeeeve is staying put! “I’m very happy to be back, Wimbledon is a brilliant club and I’m pleased to be part of it,” Seddon said at the announcement of his new one-season deal.

“Last season was great for not just myself but the Club as a collective. I want to kick on and take things to new heights this season.”

Director of Football Craig Cope added: “Steve played a crucial part last season, with his contribution to the team on the pitch and community off the pitch, we’re hoping for more of the same this coming season and I am sure the fans are delighted to welcome him back.”

Last season’s WDSA vote was essentially down to Seddon, Browne and Johnson, who were all key reasons why the Dons crossed the finish line in 19th spot, four points above relegation.

Browne, who was injured for the closing part of the season, finished topscorer with 12 goals ahead of Matty Stevens on nine. Browne earned three major votes in the WDSA POTS poll. Johnson, the bulwark of the defence, tallied four major votes. Junior Nkeng, the young discovery player of last season, finished fourth in the voting.
