Yup, I agree. He has not exactly set our football world on fire. While there are many reasons why we would struggle this season, the sheer consistency in the blandness points to a larger malaise. Bringing in someone cannot do any harm, as we are relegation bound at present.

Another disastrous result! We’ve been in 9th or 20th position for months now. How have we been so lucky to maintain that? The teams below us must be dreadful.

What a turnaround! We can almost start to believe again. Well done to the squad for picking up from what seemed like certain relegation!

I wonder when was the last time we had five draws in a row? We are becoming a team you would select on the Littlewoods pools (if that even exists anymore).

It is getting desperate! I’m not sure what sacking Hodges will actually achieve. It may even hasten what we dread. You just wonder how well thought out these decisions are? Sure, losing to MK Dons is no good, but that is our fault, not theirs. Losing him two hours after the match may have been a tad an over-reaction? We lost to Doncaster today, so…[Read more]

I’m reading that Foxtel is witholding many millions from the FFA for the A-league contract. I have never bothered with the A-league, it is so Sydney and Melbourne-centric and has made little effort to appeal to the regions. The FFA does not understand that in the regions no-one talks or pays attention to anything to do with it. I hear 50 times…[Read more]

Yes, it is hard to see any non-essential international travel being allowed at least until October. They will need to add more routes than the current Auckland, London, LA and Hong Kong hubs, but I suppose that will only be to countries where the pandemic is under control at the time. I reckon that the first tranche of travel will only be for…[Read more]

0-0, 4804 diehards. Ah well, we are still further ahead than at the same point last season, and average attendance is up. We are on the rise, with the new stadium, and better days are ahead. As for Bolton: like us, once in the premiership and shaking-up a few of the bigger clubs. But look at them now. Jeeze. Actually, I’m of a general view that…[Read more]

Wow – who would have thought that raising huge sums of dosh was that easy. Maybe Wimbledon fans are typical of southeners, being more cashed-up than the northern monkeys? Let’s hope the extra costs of the stadium is not being gobbled up by the corporate suites, boxes and viewing areas. As for the 5-0. Ouch! Still a long way to go Wimbledon. COYD.

A good result against Peterborough, a team I have always measured ourselves against – benchmark team of sorts. Let’s hope the new year continues the change in fortunes on the field for AFC.

Merry Christmas everyone. A great result yesterday. We are eight points ahead of where we were last season. We have a promising new manager. Our home and away attendance is up. And, given our penchance for relying on one striker to get most of the goals, it seems that even this is being delivered. As for the stadium, I’ll need to read more, but I…[Read more]

The romance of the Cup. Now the boys can concentrate on the league (as they say). And there is an ex-Spurs manager on the look, if we are bold enough. Regardless, we seem to be roughly where we were at the same point last season. If we keep up these Groundhog seasons, then we might just make New Plough Lane in one piece. Work workmen work!

It’s gobsmacking that Wally would throw away a paying job for the sake of offences (mainly historic) that only amounted to a 28 day ban. Coaching Wimbledon ought to be a high water mark for many a coach, and you just can’t see Wally reaching these heights again. How daft! Football is full of muppets. Like old tic-tac Willie Thorne in the snooker…[Read more]

Fabulous result. I see we now have more points than at the corresponding stage last season, which is a surprise. As you say Rob, this makes the management decision very hard for the club. Is Hodges just benefiting from the rebound and changes in the roster, or has he brought something new? If Hodges is the real deal, then was Wally listening to…[Read more]

Fabulous result. Just what the doctor ordered. I did not expect that, especially the hat trick. Oddly I stayed in a hotel in a hamlet called Forss up near Wick and John O’Groats, with the best whisky car I’ve seen. It must be norse in origin. May our Forss therefore have the fighting spirit of the Canberra Raiders, but a tad more luck. (And…[Read more]

Funny old game this football. Just when you think you are down, then lo and behold, a miracle. So, I’m going to put my $5 on a win at Peterborough and at home to Rochdale, in the firm expectation that one or both will eventuate. The omens are right: the surprise wins coming just before we get to the Wally-out stage. Fingers crossed.

Was that better? To hold Shrewsbury to a draw? I’ll be interested to hear your reactions. Looking back over the last three seasons, by the eighth game, we have been on eight points each year. So, only five adrift after a poor start. The only way can be up I hope. I’ve always been bemused that football players perform better after a half-time…[Read more]

It looks like Rob’s “dark murmerings” are the way the season is going to proceed. “Devoid of any quality”, according to the BBC. That’s a worry. The Great Escape aside, I think Wally should hit the panic button soon, before becoming a total Wally. Despite all the plaudits of how great Wally has done, from a distance I’ve never been especially…[Read more]

The fanatics at WDSA HQ (i.e. Oz) may be buoyed this weekend after an evening’s bonanza of England wickets. Anything is possible we realise. Even an Ashes win after 3 tests. And look at the commentary box and grounds – stuffed full of old captains – Hussain, Atherton, Vaughan, Strauss, Gower – who don’t seem to have found day jobs like the rest of…[Read more]

The team is not firing yet, and the delights of Ipswich and Sunderland won’t help matters. Looks like the team is settling down for a repeat of the last few seasons. I dunno, but from a distance, I get the feeling the league is tougher this year. I was looking at the tables around the country and had not picked up that Bolton, as well as Bury, had…[Read more]

Robbo may have blue and yellow blood in his veins, have ‘Wimbledon values’ and be a great guy, but surely with no league win in over three months it’s time for him to go. Every other club would have done this several matches back. It may cost us financially -though a lot less than a few years spent back in League two. Get in a temporary manager…[Read more]
