Cape Cod Womble
ParticipantA risky roll of the dice by the AFC Board but I think they have got it right. The mindset will change overnight and I’d say there may be a few players on their last days or games for the club, especially non-performing loanees. It will be very interesting to see what type of game Wally and Hodge will take on to the pitch. Not to mention the transfer window. Are these the boys who can attract players to the club with sufficient motivation to fight to stay up? Can they do it. Stay tuned listeners..

ParticipantSo… Wally Downes hasn’t even picked up a ball yet and he’s already been chastised for his use of Social Media.
Jeez… another Donald Trump… that’s all we need.
Apparently though, he does have a plan to turn our fortunes around…. this’ll hopefully be the ‘Plan B’ that NA never seemed to have. Unfortunately, playing the fishmongers in the 3rd round of the FA Cup won’t exactly give him the dosh he needs to achieve it.
Ah well, there’s always ‘Plan C’ surely?????
Now that we’ve seen a little of what Bassey can do in the role, I also wonder how long it’ll be before Downes and Bassey butt heads?
Ah well… Never a dull moment when you’re a Womble!December 6, 2018 at 6:52 am #14158Colum
ParticipantDevon. If Bassey and Wally butt heads, there will only be one winner 🙂

ParticipantToday is a big day.
Losing won’t relegate us, but a performance devoid of energy, desire and passion (like so many this season) would signal the beginning of the end.
We need to see a plan. Wally has hinted at a more direct approach and this seems sensible, but only if the midfield has the energy to support the front man/men.
We also need to see better organisation in defence. This of course will not happen within a couple of training sessions, but the defenders need to show confidence in the defensive tactics.
Rochdale are dangerous. Their away record is good despite sitting in the bottom third of the table and they score plenty of goals on their travels. Defensive mistakes are liable to be punished.
I am hoping for an ‘up and at ’em’ display, with the sheer force of will of both players and supporters enough to get us over the line. I suspect that a clean sheet may be too much to hope for, but my fingers and toes are firmly crossed for a 2-1 or 3-2 nervy victory.
A win would be huge for our season…

Singapore DonParticipantThe appointment of WD seems only to have deepened divisions in the fan base. The atmosphere around the club is really unpleasant at the moment. There’s a minority wholeheartedly behind him and a minority thoroughly opposed, with I think a vast majority on the fence waiting to see. The rather muted reception he received at KM yesterday not the raucous appreciation some might have expected. The trouble is WD is just not a unifying figure and he has an uphill task winning over the undecided. Only an upturn in performances and results will do that. I hope he can deliver and win over the sceptics.
I’ve always enjoyed the unity of AFC Wimbledon, the combined resolve and collective will to battle through thick and thin together. That spirit of togetherness is sorely missing and if anything the fan base is more divided now than ever. I just hope the heart over head decision to appoint WD pays off. These feel like existential times and Mr Downes has a devil of a job not just to keep us up in League One but to hold the club together.

ParticipantObservations from the Rochdale game…
The jury is still out on Wally’s appointment. His “joke” tweet certainly hasn’t helped him cement a base to gain the trust of the fan base. Perhaps only results will do that. If we’re still in Division One next season, he’ll have done what he’s been asked to do.
The squad is bereft of depth. With Pigott out, we effectively played with one up front. Apart from one cross early in the second half, that Hanson should have scored from, Jervis was non existent. The midfield was good, but that was without Trotter. Even Soares was subbed at half time. At the back we looked OK, but McDonnell had an absolute shocker. Whatever King has done to deserve being the No.2, must be a biggie.
All this said, let’s take the positives. We didn’t lose. We fought back from a goal down, and should have won.
