Well we are at the crossroads of the season. The Dons have been in a similar position the last two years, but failed to push on. Can they do it this season? I believe they can. The squad is better. Taylor is playing well and Azzeez may finally be coming good, so attack is OK. Reeves has been good in midfield supported by Bulman. Robinson has been solid and we have Shea back in goal. Away form has been very good. We also seem to have developed a harder edge to our game after the pitiful display against Stevenage. So if, and it is a big if, we can improve our home form and repeat the first half of the season with two or three more wins than we had in that period, we should hit the 70 point target that will maybe get us into the play-offs. Of course that starts tonight versus the cloggers from Mansfield. I am going for a scrappy 1-0 win. COYD.
Strewth! I dont know whether to be gobsmacked by yet another second half blinder, or the fact that, for the most part at least, Mansfield played football!
While I don’t see us getting promoted (or perhaps think we shouldn’t risk it?) I am relieved to think that we might start enjoying the season at last (Hooray!)
Hearing that were in talks with Nigel reo Coker
Dominic Vose of Wrexham remains on the Dons’ radar….
Connor Smith was a little under the radar – a goalscoring midfielder who has never scored a goal in league football… Oh well, back up for Bully and Reeves perhaps.
Well aren’t we cooking with gas? For the first time since we got back into the league even cynical me is beginning to believe we could make the play-offs. The top three are way too good for us so I don’t expect automatic promotion, but there’s the rub… supposing we don’t win the play-offs? What chance of holding onto our best players for next season without the additional income a League One place would generate?
Another debate perhaps.
As for today’s game, although my viewpoint is only from the Dons Player, what struck me most was the feeling that the team have become convinced that they are going to win. In earlier games, opponents hitting the Dons woodwork would cause shoulders to sag, now those shoulders just shrug and carry on ever more determined. I am really looking forward to going to the Luton match in February.
Finally, an observation about a player I think is overdue, the huge improvement by Osborne. I saw him play early season and he was wooden and seemingly disinterested; more often than not giving away a foul. In fact I slated him on this forum. His recent performances though have included several crucial last ditch, but perfectly timed interceptions. Definitely looking worth the fee at last.
