KeymasterIt started with this ..
OK football Twitterati, put me out of my misery please, who is this AFC Wimbledon trialist from yesterday’s QPR game? pic.twitter.com/Kf3IsY35SY

And in came this reply ..
Looks like Ryan longman if he’s grown his hair since I last see him , young lad from Brighton strong , quick , runs the sides well .

And two days later the seventh signing of the off-season was unveiled…
Glyn makes it 7! Young forward from Premier League club signs
Ryan is fit and ready to go. He can play anywhere up front: wide left, right, or down the middle. We see him as a centre forward, but he will help us to change what we want to do at times. He is a mobile runner, strong and athletic, with two good feet, so we are lucky to have him. He will give us good options up front with his pace.
When we play in the Trophy against Under-23 teams you get to have a good look at the players you are up against. When we faced Brighton Under-23s last season Ryan played very well and we’ve kept tabs on him ever since. We tried to bring him here in January, but he wasn’t fit enough to come, so this is a signing that we pursued all summer. He was always on our list, but his new contract at Brighton had to be sorted out before we could bring him here.🤝 Under-23s midfielder Ryan Longman has signed a new two-year contract with the Albion.
👍 Good work Ryan!#BHAFC🔵⚪

KeymasterWhile we wait for a central defender, news of a possible signing of another forward …

Word is if Smith does come in someone goes out and it doesn’t take much logic to figure out who between new signings Ollie Palmer and Ryan Longman, established striker Joe Pigott and little used Adam Roscrow.

ParticipantTBH Roscrow has had many chances, especially in this pre-season and failed to make his mark. It looks like he was a gamble which didn’t pay off, so if we can ship him out on loan for the remainder of his contract then it will be good business.
My only concern is whether Reading would be happy for their young striker to have to compete with the three others who we already have on the books – clubs normally want their loanees to play and unless this youngster is outstanding then his opportunities may be restricted to being a squad player.

ParticipantHello all – long time no speak. Hope all are well. After a summer of solid work, the football is back and time to brush off the writing cobwebs!
I’m motivated to put fingers to keyboard again after watching our impressive win over Charlton last night. Has Glyn Hodges at last got together a squad in his mould, capable of giving us a season of real challenge, or at least mid table ease, rather than another long suffering battle at the bottom of the table?
I watched last night’s game on iFollow (first time without any glitches!) – and it was a joy to watch and a thoroughly deserved 2-1 win. The new look Wimbledon is a team of energy, balance, ideas, and fight. The team looked tight knit and well organised, an assured performance across the board. All the new boys looked good, Longman and Chislett in particular impressing. But big shout outs for Hartigan who was creative and solid throughout, and particularly McLoughlin (my MOTM) who was outstanding down the right all game. He was clearly Man of the Match with a gritty, pacey, determined 90 minutes which promises real hope for the season ahead.
I’m pleased my shirt sponsee from last season, Adam Roscrow, at last got his first competitive goal for the club – a neatly taken effort after another moment of dogged brilliance from McLoughlin and clever link up play from new boy Longman. But I’m afraid he still fails to convince. He missed a sitter in the first half, and seemed clueless when through one on one against the keeper. I sincerely hope he can deliver this season, but you would think that it will be Longman who will be linking up more regularly in the starting eleven with Pigott or Palmer (when fit).
But I don’t want to be negative. Wimbledon last night were impressive and fought hard with energy and creativity for the whole 90 minutes. I predicted for Rob a difficult season ahead with a narrow survival position in the end of season table. After last night, I am really optimistic that that prediction is going to be wrong, and we’ll have a season of some promise and hope to lift all our spirits even higher as we celebrate our first season back home in Plough Lane. I just hope last night’s showing wasn’t a case of flattering to deceive. I don’t think it was!
PS Didn’t the team look even better in the new kit for this season? To my mind, it’s the best kit since AFCW got going in 2002. I got my shirt from the club shop yesterday and it really is stunning. It’s going to be a historic shirt so get online and order!!

ParticipantIt now looks like any WDSA members have extra time to save up for that first visit to Plough Lane. Earlier today it was announced that gatherings of more than six people will be banned throughout England as of Monday. In one fell swoop, any chance of anyone seeing a live football game anytime soon looks very likely. Bugger!

ParticipantSo here we go, the start of the weirdest league season in memory. Will it complete? Will it complete with a full complement of teams?
Who knows, but at least we go into it in a reasonable financial situation and with a squad that looks better than last season.
IMO today will be tough, Northampton won the play off final to gain promotion, and we ourselves know what a high that gives you for the new season.
By reputation they are direct, but they have lost their two main strikers from last season.
The arrival this morning of Dan Csoka completes the squad and fills in the potential hole at centre back and gives back up to the ‘fragile’ pair of Osew and NGW at left wing back.
Our midfield has been significantly improved from last term and so there are reasons to be optimistic for the season ahead.
Today will be a bit of a grind, but if we come out of it with a point then that should satisfy most.
COYD!!
