ParticipantA positive start to the close season with Will Nightingale signing a new contract and the arrival of Nesta Guinness-Walker. This would never had happened so quickly under Neal Ardley would it?
Keeping Will is a statement of commitment. He’s in the prime of his career how and has showed us he can make it at this level after a couple of injury prone seasons. Now we just need to build our defence around him.
Nesta Guinness-Walker’s arrival is hardly a surprise. Interestingly he can play wide on the left and likes to get forward. Perhaps this is a signal at the style of play we can expect from him next season? Worryingly though, in his interview he says Wally knows he’ll make mistakes. At this level mistakes often lead to goals. I just hope he’s a quick learner.
Anyway a good start and we’re not even at the end of May. Now if only we can sign a 20 goal a season striker. Oh I forgot we’ve got one in Appiah!

ParticipantSo yet another big earner moves on with the departure of James Hanson. The only real surprise there was that this didn’t happen at the same time as the others. Perhaps Wally felt that a fully fit Hanson still had something to offer, and didn’t want to let him go without a suitable replacement. So does that mean we can expect a new signing sometime soon? If so, will it be that 20 goal a season target man that the previous management failed to find for the previous three seasons?

ParticipantGood to have you back, Rumours!
Colum, I understand that Hanson struggled to settle down south with his family still up north, so the club agreed to cancel his contract. A shame as he seemed a good guy, but Wally could probably do better with his wages to spend.
As far as Sam Surridge is concerned, he looked good at Oldham for the first half of last season, but I understand that he then had some personal issues related to a girl he was seeing from up north. He wanted to go back up north (to Sunderland), but it fell through and he kicked his heels for the second half of the season apart from a couple of first team appearances at the death of the season. For my part he certainly fits the bill of a young, hungry and physical striker, but Wally would need to be convinced that his mind would be 100% on the job. There may also be some bigger League 1 sides sniffing around him, so I rate the chances of him coming to us as 30-40%.

ParticipantThanks for the welcome windlesham, I’ve been hearing that surridge has apparently signed along with trott and a couple other players but the only thing stopping most of ours is the players wally wants out aren’t budging. I got told earlier today that there are a few clubs sniffing around championship quality appiah and we are trying to offload him, surridge I imagine would be Hanson’s replacement and I’ve heard one of the two Irish players we’ve been linked with for ages is a striker so could be appiahs replacement, also got told we are looking at other Irish players as wally has got Stephen kelly (I imagine they we’re together at reading) scouting for us over there. Exciting times but don’t expect much transfer news as of incomings till we see some more departures!!
At least that’s what I’ve been told so take all the above with a pinch of salt
