Windlesham Don
ParticipantLikewise Liam, Singapore, I will be in the middle bar or outside (whether permitting from around 14:00). I’m a mid-50s scrawny mess and I’ll be wearing my ‘lucky’ green away top! I’ll also be with a similar aged ‘portly’ guy who is my guest for the day. I’ll keep an eye out for an Aussie carrying a big flag and a guy in a blue and yellow wig! ;o)
It would be good to meet you both.
As for today, I see it as a ‘must not lose’ match. I thought that Tuesday was a morale boosting performance and victory, and I am hopeful that NA is starting to get to grips with the new league.
However, Chesterfield have some decent players, not least of which is the lowlife Ched ‘is he a rapist or just a horrible piece of work’ Evans. Sadly he is liable to give Darius and Robbo a very hard time up front. A Grimsby supporting mate has also been raving about midfielder Jon Nolan, who was snapped up by Chesterfield at the end of last season.
I will be happy if we are mistake-free at the back and do not waste any golden opportunities at the other end. I feel it is an important day for Lyle Taylor, who should be feeling pressure from Dom Poleon. He needs to look more interested and to start finding the net now his want-away ambitions have been thwarted for at least 4 months.
As someone else posted, NA is notoriously conservative with his changes, but I hope that if things are not going well at half time he is not afraid to stick on Parrett, Poleon and Barnett.
1-1 for me, hopefully with further signs of progress.
COYD!!

ParticipantIt may be too early to predict our season but that ten game marker is coming up fast. Time then for the nerves to really start kicking in.
It won’t be lost on Chesterfield that we have a good record against them, but nor will it be lost on them that we haven’t performed well at home yet either.
My gut feel is that this will be an edgy nervy game where the loser will be the one who blinks first.
With the nerves more or less guaranteed to be bubbling up in some of our players, I think we run a real risk of losing this one… especially if we sit back like we did so many times early last season and like we have so often already this season.
The frustration is that we DO have players in form, they just don’t seem to be getting enough pitch time to make an impact.
My gut feel is a bonfire fuelling 1-0 loss, but then it could all be so different. A lucky break, a little more accuracy, a lot more conviction… and we could run out 4-0 winners. Sigh. What it is to be a Wimbledon supporter!September 3, 2016 at 11:50 pm #12950martindownunderdon
ParticipantHope today we will see LTB play as we no he can and put the ball in the back of the net. This team now looks about as strong as it can be so I’m looking for a win today. As for our new player in Chris Roberston a good age and has played in the first div so hopefully he will be a good player for us.COYDSSSSS.

Singapore DonParticipantWell this is rather wonderful, that Saturday evening post victory glow – it’s been a few months since we’ve experienced this. I’m rather happy with my 2-1 and Poleon to score prediction – spot on! LTB really was a shadow of his former self again today, running into dead ends, throwing himself to the ground in feigned fouls, altogether looking rather unimpressive. I really, really cannot see how Poleon cannot start next week. That’s five goals in three games (one of which he was only on the field for 20 minutes); he’s an in-form, fiery proven goalscorer, he simply has to start.
Dean Parrett also pressed his case for a starting slot today, looking confident and forward thrusting as ever. It was when Dannie Bulman had the ball in the first half and was suddenly through on goal – he was right in front of us with empty space between him and goal – yet he chose to pass sideways rather than shoot. Parrett’s instinctive nose for goal would have resulted in a very different scenario, and a definite attempt on goal.
I couldn’t see clearly the own goal, so I’m not going to hold Clarke to account on this one. Letting the ball bounce embarrassingly over him will be another one he’ll want to forget, but apart from that he had a decent game making a number of very good saves. He seems to be finding his form, his banter with the crowd in the JG Stand was good and a sign of a player looking more relaxed; he just needs to improve his communication with Charles and Robbo, but he’s definitely heading in the right direction.
Overall, we may just about have deserved the win, but it was another tight game – the margins are clearly small (just look at all our league scoreless this season). There’s a marked difference between League 1 and 2 football, with the pace of the game being much faster and much more passing football played. We’re adapting to this, and showing promise for good spells of games; we just need to be more consistent. Having seen how we changed gears and were “brave” playing three up front later on indicates to me that we’re learning how to play this League. We’re going to be OK.
PS Good to meet Windlesham today for the first time. Maybe next time Liamwimbo?!

MacWombleParticipantAnother correct scoreline; two in a row. Alas no money put on this unusual double at the bookies. How interesting; we were all there or thereabouts in our forecasts. 1) A draw or a win. 2) Progress being made. 3) A tight margin in all recent games. 4) Dom Poleon (a champagne, does he know Perignon?) being on the boil. However the Gaffer is usually very risk averse, so things must have been bad up-front for him to take this risk, and that is a worry. Maybe Veuve Poleon et Chandon will fizzle and spark for a few weeks to cover a period where the Gaffer and his gaffering team work on LBT’s attitude and explanation that what is said in media interview ought to translate into what is done on the pitch. 6 games, 5 points, 19th place. After 10 games last season we had 13 points. So we need 8 points from 4 games, which does not seem realistic at this stage. BTW, I’m not counting the Swansea U21 game in this, as that was a bit of a joke. Sounds like everyone enjoyed the bar.
