There may have been a few out there who’d have had us in 23rd place right now. In fact there are many who’d have us in that position come late April next year. But how many of those would also have Sheffield United below us, and Coventry only two places above? In fact I had them down as 2nd and 3rd respectively in the WDSA Pundits Poll. This probably shows that this league is like the one below, with most sides able to take points off others. At least that’s my excuse.

At least we’re off the mark with a point. It sounds like the game was ruined by the weather. We should be saying that in mid November rather than August mind. It look warm out there, but the gale force winds across the country makes it feel anything but.

So with the early rush of games – why does the league do this? – we have a week’s respite before the Rochdale six pointer. If we win that, we could be mid table.

A first point of the season, and at a venue where we have never won, but my major emotion at the final whistle was one of disappointment, one of an opportunity missed.

Undoubtedly the conditions were difficult, but we seemed to adjust to them better than the home side. Northampton have strengthened during the close season, with some big name acquisitions, but they were a huge disappointment today, posing little threat during the 90 minutes. One good save from Clarke may once again have the boo boys backing off, but in truth he had little else to do.

The big shame was that we dominated both the corner count (13) and shot count (14), but probably generated only one really close effort when late in the game a header from Kelly (I think) was clawed on to the post/bar by the Cobblers’ keeper.

The main positive of course, was a first clean sheet of the season. As previously mentioned, Clarke was solid and the much maligned Kelly also put in a good display.

In conclusion, it was important that we finally got off the mark for the season, and there were plenty of positives to take from the day. It also confirmed that despite the points total, we do not appear to be relegation fodder this season.

Well it sounded like the wind played a big part in this game, but its a point away from home. Solid performance by the keeper and the rest of the defense just need the boys up front to put away a few half chances.Coyd.

Listened in on the phone on my drive back home from the Wallabies Test. From the WDON call Dons had a lot of the play and the stats bear that out. Good to get on the board, but maybe could (should) have got all three against lacklustre last season’s L2 champions. Now to make these clean sheets a habit. Rochdale next weekend will tell us more.

Very relieved to have got off the mark with a point. One can never complain about a draw away at home. Very surprised that Sheffield United are the only team below us. Maybe a sign that this division is more even than we thought. Does not sound like a great game to watch. Am heading over soon and will be at three home games. Hopefully get some entertainment and more importantly see the Dons acquire some points. At least the weather forecast is good in London next week.

Really pleased we got our first point, although yet again it sounds as though we shortchanged ourselves and could have had all three points. This from The League Paper today: “The visitors had the better of proceedings. They created the better chances, posed more of a threat and could have stolen the spoils right at the end”. Sounds like we won the stats game again, but pulled up short again on the crucial goals stats. Good to hear from Windlesham that Clarke and Kelly performed well – Kelly makes The League Paper’s League One team of the day – and the clean sheet shows the defence did their job yesterday. Unfortunately the blank in the goals for column also shows that our strikers have work to do still. Taylor hasn’t yet scored in open play in a league match (his only league goal was a penalty against Walsall), Elliott has been playing well but not converting, and Barnett’s and Poleon’s cameo roles have yet to deliver any return. Slowly, slowly we’re getting there; hopefully next week we’ll get it right at both ends of the field to give us our first League One win. Rochdale have lost both their home games, so it’s there for the taking!
