#ScunthorpeUnited are weighing up a January move for #Wimbledon captain Will Nightingale. Iron boss Neil Cox worked with Nightingale while assistant manager at the Dons and it's understood he would like to sign him if finances allow this January. https://t.co/X9hXfU1zEo

Wimbledon may be looking for a new goalkeeper after Connal Trueman was recalled from his loan spell by parent club Birmingham City. At this stage Glyn Hodges can call on Nik Tzanev or Matthew Cox, or look for a more experienced replacement during January.

As mentioned in the first window post Wimbledon were linked with Cardiff City goalkeeper Joe Day, who had a loan spell at Kingsmeadow a few seasons back. But he has now gone to Bristol Rovers.

Strong mail from Reading FC that goalkeeper Sam Walker is heading to Wimbledon on loan for the remainder of this season following the return of Connal Trueman to Birmingham City.
Quick bit of transfer news – as reported earlier, understand that #readingfc GK Sam Walker is set to join AFC Wimbledon on loan for rest of the 20/21 campaign. He's out of contract at Royals in the summer so pretty safe to say he's played his final game for the club pic.twitter.com/iOk2pEzbw7

We are delighted to have him. He is experienced, a good size, and a good personality. We keep mentioning about the young side we’ve got, so hopefully he will bring his experience to the group. We have a good relationship with Reading, I am friends with their first-team coach, so that helps. Obviously, when you are doing your work and the goalkeeper comes up on your list you do your research and ring around. We had great reviews on Sam and he was a signing that we couldn’t turn down.

The club also announced that forward Adam Roscrow was leaving and had been signed 13-time Welsh Premier League champions New Saints, with what they say is a record fee (in the region of 50K). Roscrow struggled to make any impact in the big step up from Welsh non-league to League One during his time with the Dons and the move gives him the opportunity to play more football, which he was not getting at Wimbledon.

And finally, some news on defender Terell Thomas, who is in hospital battling a viral infection.
Will be out of action for bit, due to catching a viral infection and it causing complications. I am now slowly recovering thanks to the hard work of the @NHSEnglandLDN staff

January 16, 2021 at 11:05 pm #14895Windlesham DonParticipantImportant that Glyn gets a performance today ahead of another difficult run of fixtures.
Our new keeper may discover the size of the task in front of him if our defence maintains its error strewn recent form. Let’s hope he can inspire a solid performance.
Hopefully we will maintain a back four (not sure we have enough CBs to continue as a back 3!). Also hope that Rudi’s goal in the week will have given him confidence to showcase his many talents.
A point is all we can reasonably hope for today against a Black Cat side who are performing very well on the road. A clean sheet would be great, but may be too much to hope for.
I’m plumping for a 1-1 draw, but without much confidence… COYD!!
January 17, 2021 at 11:33 pm #14896Windlesham DonParticipantAmongst an array of disappointing performances this season, yesterday stands out for me as a low point.
Normally a defeat against a promotion chasing ‘big boy’ such as Sunderland would not be unexpected, but two aspects of yesterday really got to me.
Firstly, the Black Cats were not very good, IMO the worst Sunderland side we have faced in League 1. They were organised and competitive, yes, but without flair, skill or pace. Workmanlike would be my description and not a patch on Peterborough or Doncaster in my view, yet we let them stroll to victory barely breaking sweat.
Second, was the complete lack of belief in the team. After the first goal, which involved some awful lily-livered defending, you could almost see the confidence drain from the team – and no one seemed to possess the leadership skills to drag them back.None of this is helped by Glyn’s ‘vanilla’ post match interviews, “one game away from three points” is a mantra that is wearing thin after one point from seven games. I appreciate that constant histrionics will not help the players, but at the moment the team is sinking towards inevitable relegation and we can’t afford to go with a whimper.
It may seem dramatic to say it, but I believe we have two weeks to save our season. The time to the end of the transfer window needs to be used wisely and the unexpected windfall from the sale of Adam Roscrow must be used to strengthen the squad. IMO we need a Paul Robinson, or a Jason Goodliffe figure (even a Jamie Stuart) to organise and ‘crack heads’ on the pitch when it’s needed. In addition, Kalambayi needs to be shipped out, as he is obviously a bad influence in the changing room.
Personally, I am now resigning myself to relegation. We had the great escape two years ago, followed by the lucky escape last season, this season unless there is a dramatic turnaround I see no escape…
