Wizard of OzParticipantThanks Windles, any opinion is worthwhile in my opinion ;)especially for those of us not there to form our own. I don’t think I can recall a pre season where all the pieces seem to fit. I am not expecting Barcelona but I am expecting a good season.

Wizard of OzParticipantNever make judgment from pre-season; more than twenty players were used yesterday. It is interesting that Meades and Reeves have been criticised by the fans but Ardley puts it down to the team not being compact enough leaving the mids with too much to do.

Wizard of OzParticipantI am easily pleased so am well pleased with the signings so far; it all looks pretty solid and definitely a notch or two up on last year. The re-signing of Akinfenwa and Kennedy is very encouraging. We haven’t signed Meades-the-injured we have signed Meades-the-star from when he played with us; Ardley is setting good standards for recruitment. Barcham is just another on the merry go round of wingers Ardley hopes can change the face of a game; good luck to him. I am really thrilled by the signings of Osborne and Elliott. Osborne sounds a really solid pro, just what we need at the back, and Elliott scores enough goals, without being a super star, to either play off Bayo or to lead the line himself. More to come too. All good IMO.

Wizard of OzParticipantDevonWomble you remind me of the old story of the bloke who lost a pound and found a penny. You have more complaints than my doctor’s waiting room. Even my wife, who could find an argument in a vacuum, doesn’t whinge as much as you. I suggest you go to your local Specsavers and ask for a pair of yellow and blue glasses, they are marvellous for improving your outlook. As for the very notion that you somehow know how Ardley should behave and what he should say – next time we apply for a new manager why don’t you apply?
Mind you, you are right about the subs, should have freshened up the team from the hour mark…January 5, 2015 at 4:49 pm #10229
Wizard of OzParticipantIt is that time of year in the UK; absolutely nothing on telly. Until tonight, that is, when even my football hating wife will be glued to the telly. I am completely relaxed about the game. Billy big boots Liverpool with their overpaid stars with unpronounceable names will be playing little old new Wimbledon. They could be in for the fright of their lives. Wimbledon will give everything and hopefully get something from this game. A win would be astonishing, a draw would be very satisfying, a defeat unsurprising. What is quite noticeable is how, as been pointed out, everyone is saying how it is a rematch of 1988. Take that Franchise, take that three man FA Commission. Wimbledon, win, lose or draw, very much in the interest of football. C’mon you Dons!

Wizard of OzParticipantI have great sympathy for Neal Ardley. Managing Wimbledon is no easy task. I imagine he works his socks off, day and night; he will eat, sleep and dream Wimbledon. He will give more in one day than many of us give in a year. We all ‘know’ he needs a new midfielder; Harry Pell is the missing link but he has gone missing. Ardley has no money to spend, he works on a small budget, in a very competitive league. As a player who was Wimbledon’s Neal Ardley to Man Utd’s David Beckham he was competent and reliable; he never was a flair player.
As a manager he expects players of limited ability to work hard all the time, as he did. He expects them to pour heart and soul into every game. He expects them to care, as he did that infamous day at Southampton, and as he does today. Like most managers he is conservative, not brave, and the grind of League 2 will make him less brave. He tries a Chris Arthur and a Harry Pell and is let down. He tries seasoned professionals and is let down. No wonder cracks appear under the pressure and he says things best left behind closed doors. I seem to recall Terry Brown making similar comments.
He is no where near brave enough for me but that doesn’t mean I want him to go; I don’t. I want him to stay and grow with the job. He was bold enough to sign Tubbs and Akinfenwa, perhaps in January he will do something similar again. It will be a sad day if someone so intrinsically Wimbledon leaves because of fans dissatisfaction. -
