ParticipantThe stats don’t lie: 2 points in 33. Nine defeats in eleven. Shockingly bad and at any other club there would be repercussions. Today for historic reasons was a really depressing day leaving so many with a sharp sense of being rock bottom. Without change, relegation looks more and more likely. I can’t see this lot doing a Great Escape 2. The sad thing is these players clearly don’t really get our history. If they did, today would have been a different story: more passion, ideas, belief, leadership. But today showed we simply are not a very good team. We lack quality throughout: no flair, creativity, fight, ability. Rudoni probably the only exception. A very sorry state of affairs. And as in all walks of life, managers bear responsibility.

ParticipantThis was the must win game: for our season, for our pride. An historic day – and we failed. A dark day in the history of AFC Wimbledon, probably our lowest point. No ideas, no leadership, on or off the field. Each and everyone at AFCW is forever tarnished with this day of ignominy. The disgrace and shame will forever be a scar on all. This may sound over dramatic, but no one should underestimate the pain and humiliation of today. Today’s defeat is now there in the history books. Relegation now looks all the more likely. We can bounce back from that. But we can never eradicate this most terrible of blots in the history of our club. The Wimbledon team and manager today have forever tarnished our historic return to Plough Lane with this shameful defeat. Time is the best healer, but it will never heal today’s painful memory which will be an indelible stain there in the history of AFC Wimbledon and Plough Lane. Today was unforgivable.

ParticipantIt’s not the hope that kills. It’s the inconsistency.

ParticipantHello all – long time no speak. Hope all are well. After a summer of solid work, the football is back and time to brush off the writing cobwebs!
I’m motivated to put fingers to keyboard again after watching our impressive win over Charlton last night. Has Glyn Hodges at last got together a squad in his mould, capable of giving us a season of real challenge, or at least mid table ease, rather than another long suffering battle at the bottom of the table?
I watched last night’s game on iFollow (first time without any glitches!) – and it was a joy to watch and a thoroughly deserved 2-1 win. The new look Wimbledon is a team of energy, balance, ideas, and fight. The team looked tight knit and well organised, an assured performance across the board. All the new boys looked good, Longman and Chislett in particular impressing. But big shout outs for Hartigan who was creative and solid throughout, and particularly McLoughlin (my MOTM) who was outstanding down the right all game. He was clearly Man of the Match with a gritty, pacey, determined 90 minutes which promises real hope for the season ahead.
I’m pleased my shirt sponsee from last season, Adam Roscrow, at last got his first competitive goal for the club – a neatly taken effort after another moment of dogged brilliance from McLoughlin and clever link up play from new boy Longman. But I’m afraid he still fails to convince. He missed a sitter in the first half, and seemed clueless when through one on one against the keeper. I sincerely hope he can deliver this season, but you would think that it will be Longman who will be linking up more regularly in the starting eleven with Pigott or Palmer (when fit).
But I don’t want to be negative. Wimbledon last night were impressive and fought hard with energy and creativity for the whole 90 minutes. I predicted for Rob a difficult season ahead with a narrow survival position in the end of season table. After last night, I am really optimistic that that prediction is going to be wrong, and we’ll have a season of some promise and hope to lift all our spirits even higher as we celebrate our first season back home in Plough Lane. I just hope last night’s showing wasn’t a case of flattering to deceive. I don’t think it was!
PS Didn’t the team look even better in the new kit for this season? To my mind, it’s the best kit since AFCW got going in 2002. I got my shirt from the club shop yesterday and it really is stunning. It’s going to be a historic shirt so get online and order!!

ParticipantExcellent summary of the SGM Windlesham. I went to the meeting last night in gloomy mood, and left more depressed than when I went. My takeout is that the club is seemingly irreparably split down the middle on external investment vs fan ownership. The situation is as fundamentally divisive as Brexit. Such is the deeply entrenched passion and belief on both sides, I fear we’ll lose a swathe of fans whichever way the vote on our future goes. The differences seem irreconcilable over our very identity – who we are and where we’re going as a club. This really does feel like an existential moment for AFC Wimbledon. Dark days.
