So four points from Gillingham and Walsall, and I think we can breathe a collective sigh of relief that our League One safety now looks a lot more likely. I didn’t post a write-up after the Gills game given the late return and demands of work – but we were well worth our point there, and indeed could have taken all three. It was great to see Lyle…[Read more]

How on earth did we lose that? Shrewsbury were dreadful, lacking any goal threat, yet from two set pieces they managed to steal all three points. We have only ourselves to blame (although we can apportion a big dollop of blame with the ref who disallowed what looked like a perfectly good header from Elliott at the end of the first half -…[Read more]

We are in a bad place right now. What we saw last night was poor, very poor, with a complete lack of ideas, creativity, imagination. Possibly the only fresh approach was putting David Fitzpatrick on for the second half, but even his youthful enthusiasm and freshness failed to break our stodgy, deadlocked mindset. We looked like a team running on…[Read more]

Thanks for the on and off pitch observations Windlesham – I concur with all you say.
On the pitch, we were as bad as we’ve been all season in the first half. Second half we were much better: Francomb looked much more comfortable at right back, Barcham added width and pace on the left, even Barnett did his job and provided the assist for Tom’s…[Read more]

Make no mistake, that “performance” at Bramall Lane was as abject and lacklustre as we’ve seen from the Dons all season. The worst by far. While Sheffield United were silky smooth in their passing, incisive in their attacks, passionate in their fight, we were the polar opposite. Clueless, slow, lethargic and quite frankly embarrassingly…[Read more]

How weird to be the giant-killed, yet I actually don’t feel that bad about losing tonight’s game to Sutton – strange for me who takes defeat badly. But when Robinson was sent off in the 15th minute, the writing seemed to be on the wall. The thorough ineptitude of the referee really did spoil the game, Sutton getting away with blatant handballs…[Read more]

What a joy. As convincing a 3-0 win as you’ll see, with as polished a team performance as I’ve seen in a long, long time: the U-18s FA Youth Cup victory over Premier League Hull City was simply uplifting. The team purred as one, linking from back to front with pinpoint passes played along the ground; this was a class act. The scoreline could…[Read more]

Well said Windlesham (and good to see you there). Very poor game in which we failed to test our old keeper once. Sutton bossed the midfield, and looked a lot more threatening in attack. Their number 21, Deacon, should be worth monitoring. It was only Sutton’s poor finishing that ensured we are still in the hat for the fourth round draw. Shame the…[Read more]

Christmas Eve here in Wimbledon, but of course Christmas Day with you guys down under – so here’s wishing you a very happy Christmas Day and all best wishes for a wonderful festive break. Let’s hope the Dons give us some post Christmas gifts on the pitch over the next week: four points would be a great return at Southend and Bristol Rovers. In the…[Read more]

Oops, one glaring omission from my hastily written round up: Tyrone Barnett. He had a cameo appearance for the last ten minutes, and once again got a goal to bolster the Dons position. He still look a bit more leggy and more lethargic in his overall work rate and effort, but I’m now wondering whether that matters quite so much if he’s scoring…[Read more]

Well could we have had a better early Christmas present from the boys in blue? Shaking the match package this morning it was hard to work out what exactly was in store after the highs of Curzon and lows of the unspeakable – today’s offering could have been anything if truth be told. Well, what we got was the perfect gift – a great 4-0…[Read more]

Never forgive, never forget. I shall not be going to the franchise dungeon of theft, my loathing of the scum too visceral to contemplate a visit up the M1 today. Like many I’m sure, I’m still too scarred by what happened in 2002 when our beloved Wimbledon FC was stolen from us. The unspeakables and the football world should always be reminded of…[Read more]

Woeful for 70 minutes, superb for 20 minutes – we can all breathe a big sigh of relief. It has to go down as one of the greatest Dons comebacks, second only probably to the West Ham one all those years ago, and it does demonstrate that the Wimbledon never say die spirt lives on. When that goal line scramble some how didn’t go in for us in about…[Read more]

Perhaps I was being a bit harsh on Poleon. But as a striker on the pitch tasked with scoring goals goals, despite all his commendable hard work, Dom by his high standards did have an off game in not converting two golden goalscoring opportunities. He’s buried those every time before. Mind you, he’a no doubt arguing still that he did score one!

A point was probably as much as we deserved from our poor showing against Fleetwood, but it was still incredibly disappointing to throw away another two points with yet another stoppage time goal conceded. That’s the fourth league match in which we’ve done that (Rochdale, Coventry, Bradford and Fleetwood) costing us seven points, as well as the…[Read more]

I went along to the FA Youth Cup game at Kingsmeadow last night to check out the up and coming Dons talent – and there are some real prospects there. A comfortable 3-0 win which could have been more comfortable were it not for some great saves by the Bristol Rovers keeper.
Pick of the bunch on show was Jayden Antwi up front, Azeez like in his…[Read more]

Some 0-0’s are exciting and belie their dull scoreline. Not this one. This was a classic 0-0 bore draw. I can’t recall any real heart in mouth moments, although young James Shea did make a couple of decent saves, living up to his ever more sure Mr Reliable role between the posts. The only real entertainment in this game was the antics of the…[Read more]

For 25 minutes, this was a fairly even contest – both the Dons and Bury probing and creating chances, but neither showing a killer instinct. And then, wow! Just wow. Three minutes of sheer ecstasy as the Dons went in to turbo drive, and the Bury defence capitulated in suicidal fashion. Delirium for us Dons, devastation for the travelling Bury…[Read more]

Agreed Colum, that was indeed as one sided a game as you’ll ever see. Bury were dreadful. Having said that, we were as good as I’ve seen us all season.
The stand out players for me were Taylor and Poleon, who as Colum said changed the game when he came on. Now Azeez is gone, the “on fire” song should surely be young Dom’s – except he already has…[Read more]

PS Will Nightingale had another solid game in central defence. Very calm and assured. Bodes well. My one other obsevation, and I’m afraid a negative one, is the sloppy and very costly wayward pass of Lyle Taylor in midfield that gifted them their first goal after just two minutes. A number of players have been guilty in recent games of giving away…[Read more]
