Thanks Windlesham. I just watched LTB pre-Scunthorpe interview on YouTube; he talks about building partnerships with Barnett and Poleon, so a suggestion of a future with us. Let’s see!
As we prepare for the big Tuesday night game, what are our predictions? It’s going to be a gloriously sunny evening at KM, which I’m really looking forward to, and I’m feeling optimistic we’ll get something from the game. I’m not underestimating Scunthorpe; they narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season, and at the weekend fought back from 0-2 to get a 2-2 draw at Fleetwood. They could and should have won the game apparently. But we’re due some luck and reward for the good performances but defeats of our the last three matches. I’m going for a hard fought 2-2 draw. Hope I’m
wrong and it’s a win. I’ll be there to cheer the boys on come what may.
Draw for me to.Fill we are still not running on fall steam, abit more understanding between the defense and the the goal keeper and we shall be good. Like the look of our forward line and they will cause a lot of clubs problems.COYD
I will also be there tonight, supping a pre-match beer on a rare warm summer night. I haven’t made any predictions to date as I really have little clue regarding our relative position in this division! However, I am concerned that many supporters (not on this forum, of course) are pencilling in a first win for tonight. Scunny will be a solid, well organised side and one who I suspect will be quick to punish any further defensive lapses. To get a win I feel that the defence (and keeper) will need to demonstrate a solidity which they haven’t shown to date. I hope that Whelpdale will be 100% fit to slot back into the right side of midfield, as I felt that the 4-3-3/4-5-1 system on Saturday looked unbalanced. LTB spent too much time defending and the three in the heart of midfield did not really work together. I also thought that Bolton had done their homework on us and managed to snuff out the influence of Reeves as playmaker. Other teams will have seen this and so we will need to overcome it in some way.
With no confidence whatsoever I predict a nervy 2-2, with us grabbing a morale-boosting equaliser at the death…
COYD!!
Self-inflicted defensive problems aside, the Dons are facing a tough initiation to League One: just look at who they have played so far — Walsall, Peterborough (LC) and Bolton Wanderers, all who have been put forward as promotion contenders this season. Tonight you can add Scunthorpe United to that list. Scunny missed out on last season’s playoffs on goal difference. They are a team said to be on the rise. Make no mistake this shapes as another tough test for the Dons. That’s not to say Wimbledon don’t have a chance. It’s just that they have to cut out the defensive gifts they have been presenting and take their chances when they come. It may be that Neal Ardley’s team will need more time to adjust to the higher level and we will need to look long term — after all, this is game three of a 46-game league season. Against Scunny, I’ll be interested in what our snouts report back on goalkeeper Ryan Clarke, the two CBs and the hit-or-miss Andy Barcham.
Also interested what’s in tonight’s Scunthorpe match programme, could be a big mention of WDSA!!!
