Participantwhat a fantastic result on saturday that gives me a bit more optimism for the coming season now, the only question ive got is how did pinnock play? i saw he got in the efl totw and from what i saw on twitter he was class. ive also heard and seen that we are signing one more striker after cody left us, because of fitness problems but i wish him the best of luck wherever he goes. but yeah this season could be a fairly good one for us, heres hoping!

ParticipantIf the game had taken place in the USA I doubt the Referee would have made it to the car…
Today’s exploits by the pillock with the whistle also make we realise why there is no such things as transfer windows for Referees…. few of them would be worth a cent.
AFCW 0 points, Referee 3 points… I shall be keeping tabs.August 13, 2018 at 2:46 am #13979
liamwimboParticipantQuick match report. Dons much the better team. Lots of crosses into the box from Pinnock and Bircham but failed capitalise on them. Hit the post in a goalmouth scramble near the end of the first half. Barch was particularly good and got MotM. Defence stood up well but to be honest Coventry didn’t threaten much.
Denied a penalty by the ref in injury time, no doubt one of the decisions that Devon was referring to.
Should have won but a reasonably encouraging performance. COYDsAugust 14, 2018 at 5:53 am #13980Windlesham Don
ParticipantJust watched Saturday’s match back in full and was amazed to see Liam Trotter even better than he was at Fleetwood! Lord only knows what has happened to him in the close season, but long may it continue! Incredibly he seemed to play in the Jake Reeves playmaker role and he took to it like a duck to water. I still have concerns over Tom Soares, who doesn’t seem to read the game well enough for someone with his lack of pace.
My other concern is in front of goal where there is little sign of Kwesi and the Pig forming an understanding. I really like the Pig, whose touch is improving every game, but neither him nor Kwesi get in enough goalscoring positions given the amount of crosses we were delivering into the box.
The good points are pretty much everything else. We look pretty solid defensively, with the two full backs adding much needed pace. Deji and Will can be a bit ‘harem scarem’ at times, but they get away with it most of the time. King looks like a solid shot stopper and two clean sheets (and relatively little to do) will add to his confidence.
On the wings Pinnock continues to impress, with early Beckham-like delivery. Barcham still frustrates though, as many moves lose their impetus when he has to stand his defender up before going past him.
All in all, though, as many others have said, this season is looking to be much more enjoyable than last.
Let’s hope that tough trips to Pompey and Barnsley continue the optimistic mood.

liamwimboParticipantTremendous night out at Fratton Park yesterday evening. The Dons displayed great character to come back from 1-0 down to win 2-1. Starting line-up bit different from Saturday with McDonald at centre half, Garrett LB, Wordsworth and Wagstaff in midfield, and Hanson up front being different.
Dons totally dominated the first 20 minutes but Pompey then nearly scored with their first real attack. Thereafter both teams had good spells but 0-0 at HT.
We then got caught cold early in the second half conceding a close range header from a corner that King had no chance with. Pompey nearly got a second before Ardley put on Appiah for Pinnock. The change rejuvenated the Dons who deservedly equalised when the Pig headed home from a Wagstaff cross. Then with 3 minutes left, a cross from Soares was turned in for an own goal by them.
Was a very entertaining game with both teams having good spells but this Dons team looks much better than this time last year.
Early days still, but there is a lot of optimism amongst the fans that this season will be much better than the last.August 15, 2018 at 9:02 pm #14022
Singapore DonParticipantGreat to see you at Fratton Park last night Liam – what a difference to that Borehamwood game! We are being treated to some wonderful football: assured, composed, creative, silky passing – boy, it really feels like watching “the beautiful game”! This team is so, so different to last year’s. A calm confidence and resilience courses through the blood of every player, and they play so well together as a unit: no egos or prima donnas, everyone playing doggedly for each other in what is a thoroughly inspiring team effort. The fact we can bring in five different players and still beat a strong Portsmouth team shows what depth in quality we have in our squad. Wagstaff and Wordsworth were outstanding (Wagstaff MOTM for me), and Neal now has some tough decisions to make for the trip to Barnsley. Really looking forward to making the trip north for that one. See you there Liam!!
