So we’re in Monday’s round 3 draw. Who do you want to get? Most seemed to want an away tie against Arsenal or Tottenham (at Wembley of course). Outside choices would be Chelsea or Newcastle away.
Whatever happens in Monday’s draw, there is no taking away the enormity of this win. It was a thrilling cup tie, with both sides going for the win. Charlton didn’t really create too much in the first half, but started the second brightly. For 10-15 minutes they came at us, and very nearly went ahead. George Long made a couple of good saves, including one that had everyone purring afterwards. Then up popped LTB for his brace. His first was after brilliant and unselfish play from Cody.
Cody seems to have got his mojo back in recent weeks, and has started to repay Neal for signing him. All over the field we were winning battles. Barcham in particular ran their right back ragged. He was everywhere, even frequently tracking back to defend. Deji was massive at the back, and showed he can act as a sweeper with his run for our first. The only one who didn’t really perform was the much maligned Trotter. When Jimmy Abdou came on late in the game, he showed what we’ve missed in midfield. He ran and harried. Watch and learn Liam, if you want to get the fans off your back.
This fixture was marred by one thing. The incendiary and totally unnecessary pre-match comments by Karl Robinson. Unsurprisingly he received a warm womble reception throughout, and even had to have extra security to escape to the team’s coach (with his tail between his legs) after the game. I hope his grimace remains until we play them again at home. Admittedly he was always going to receive a hostile welcome, but he didn’t help himself. He just doesn’t know when to shut up. And long may it remain so if we continue to make his miserable existence even unhappier.
Just spotted ace football manager (according to his own PR) Karl Robinson slamming his players after their loss yesterday. See http://www.kentlive.news/sport/football/football-news/charlton-athletic-boss-slams-missed-870832. Poor old Naby Sarr gets it fully in the neck. Yes he didn’t have the best of games, but such man management skills will do little for the poor guy’s confidence. We don’t mind sore losers so much, but when the real problem tries to deflect the problem onto others, it outlines how big the chip is on his shoulder. He chose the team, set up the tactics, and ultimately failed. The difference between the two manager’s managerial style yesterday couldn’t be much different. One is honest and trusting. The other lets his mouth do the talking.
Woohoo! What a draw, with the added bonus of being able to give Dele Alli some stick.
Excellent draw but we need to concentrate on the League for the next few weeks Fancy us to get at least a point tonight v Bury PS Was great to get a picture of Robert and the WDSA banner last week
