Two months without a game and the first friendly is called off. Thanks Eastleigh!
So my thoughts turned to more weighty matters.
You know that trick freestylers do to juggle the ball and then catch it between their shoulder blades?
If a player were to do that in the opposition’s penalty area, how would they get the ball off him without giving away a penalty or free kick?
Well it beats asking who’ll the next signing is.
Reeves and Poleon, along with former Don Charlie Wyke, in Bradford side for first half against Vanarama National League North side Bradford Park Avenue. 0-3 down at half time. All three only played first 45 mins. The City eleven for second half kept it at 0-3. Not a glorious start for our former Dons/glory seekers.
Colum. I am sure the Gaffer will have this on the agenda for the first team meeting (you know, the one with all of the new players who are really Championship players and are commanding such R E S P E C T). It may be that the players have to learn some Portuguese to get the ball back. Where is Eastleigh and why was the game postponed? For some reason it sounds like the sort of place that has a by-election.
The Eastleigh statement on their website hinted at a disagreement about the state of the pitch. Behind all the platitudes, it seems like there may have been a bit of a falling out. Oh to have been a fly on the pitch side wall at that inspection yesterday.
Singapore I think that was Neal’s master plan all along. Sell some of our better players for large fees to rival League One clubs, and get them to play utter shite. Long may it continue.
Many thanks to Singapore for the MtM update. And apologies to Rob for lurking and not posting. Have been on the “other” forum and not liking the negativity on there.
As others have said, losing Elliott was expected, Poleon not an issue, but was disappointed about Reeves leaving. However others coming in has been welcome news.
I feel we have defensive options covered and not looking too bad up front. But midfield is a worry. And I still think Shea deserved a new contract.
But overriding all that is my faith in Neal Ardley. He seems to have admitted last season’s signings did not work out. And going by Singapore’s comments, that affected team spirit, which was so instrumental in our promotion to L1. If Ardley can regenerate that in the coming year, that will help enormously in staying up this year.
As I’ve said before, we just need to be better than four other teams. I reckon Gillingham will really struggle so hopefully another three teams will also be poor.
As for social news, I am arriving early August. Planning to go to Scunny away, home to Brentford in the LC, home to Shrewsbury and Donnie, then an away trip to the dubious delights of Blackpool. So hope to catch up with as many as you as possible when I’m over.
On a final note, it’s wonderful to know we will be back at Plough Lane very soon. For us Wombles Downunder, it will be a pilgrimage to end all others.
