Seven points out of of twelve and both Soares and Trotter scoring. Who’d have predicted that before Christmas? Trotter was my MOTM against Southend as well!
So now we go off to enjoy another visit to Wembley. After that it is back to the league and a game against you know who. Win that, and they’re where we are now. Now that would be something to bring some new year cheer.
How do FA Cup gate receipts work? With 47,527 fans attending the Spurs game, we must surely have pocketed several hundred thousand?
We get £27k prize money for reaching R3. As for gate receipts we should get 45% after the usual expenses are deducted. But with tickets at £10 each that only about £475,270 if they all paid full price. Judging by the number of young fans there on Sunday, I say a good estimate for ticket sales would be £350k. As Wembley is an expensive place to hire, let’s say the leftovers is £300k. If we get 45% of that, it’s nowhere near the amount we first thought we’d end up with.
Colum, Erik’s estimate was for us to make £50k out of the tie, but I understand that this was based on a crowd of 30k. With 50k tickets sold I would hope that the final figure will turn out to be £80k-£100k.
Not brilliant, but better than if we had lost in the first round…
I’m delighted that we’ve signed a forward. Joe Pigott certainly seems to have the credentials, but I was struck by a comment Neal Ardley made in the formal announcement video. He said that at the Scum game, he looked around at who he could bring on who could help the forwards. There was Forrester and Kaja who he described at wingers.
This seems to suggest that Pigott will be used as an impact sub for the last 20-30 minutes of games. If so, this means we’ll still have to persevere with the lumbering midfield for an hour or more each game, and hope we’re not 2-0 down before the subs get a chance. Maybe, just maybe, there’s a case for Pigott to start a game instead of Cody or Lyle once he is deemed fit and “in tune” with out way of playing.
Just saying.
For me Pigott will be one for the future, but will indeed be used off the bench to give Lyle and Cody a breather.
Personally, I’d have used Forrester behind the front two, with ‘sloth’ Trotter benched, but that is just my opinion.
I am hoping that Carlton Cole proves his fitness and desire so that we can sign him to the end of the season. I doubt that Pigott will make a big initial impact, but a fit Carlton Cole certainly would.
Important game on Saturday, with others down the bottom playing each other. Three points and the league table could look very different on saturday evening.
COYD!
