So Ive been on holiday since 7th August and will be till the 27th but I can’t watch the games as my billing address is where I live is there anyway I can watch the games while in Spain
Rumours – Just for you (and for me when I go on holiday) I have on to the iFollow Helpdesk and they told me the following:
As your subscription is UK based then you do not get live matches when overseas (probably one of the reasons that a UK subscription is £45 and an international one is £110). However, when you are abroad you can purchase individual match passes to watch games. To do this you will need to visit the iFollow area of the club website, go to the Match Centre for the upcoming match and there should be an option to ‘Buy a Match Pass’. This option will not be displayed if you are accessing the Match Centre from within the UK. I’m not sure how much a Match Pass costs. Alternatively, with your UK subscription you should still be able to get audio commentary.
Hope this helps.
Just been informed by someone who has tried it, that to purchase a match pass you need to have an overseas bank account!! Madness if it is true, but the sort of organisation we have come to expect from the EFL!
Let us know how you get on…
ifollow is not the easiest to ‘follow’ even from abroad gentlemen. Living in South Carolina, USA, I can of course get a Match Pass, and most but not all live matches.
However, it seems that to get a Match Pass, there is no hard and fast rule when the option appears on the ‘Match Centre’ screen. So far it has appeared a week beforehand but disappeared 48 hours before the match, and was not available for the minor plastic egg-cup game with Brentford.
It also has the habit of allowing you to login, buy a Match Pass, then throw you out of the system without your Match Pass.
I have had numerous emails with ifollow (and to give them their due they have always responded promptly and helpfully), but it remains something of a flaky system.
One current complaint which they claim they are working on is that if you buy a Match Pass with a view to watching the match as a ‘replay’ (having missed it ‘live’), There is currently no way to avoid the result BEFORE you get to the Match Centre to view the game!
Nevertheless, I have a Match Pass for tomorrow 🙂 and will report back.
Devon – Is the only option to pay for the Match Pass via a local bank account do you know?
Yup it is Windlesham.
Unfortunately for all fans in the UK the system has two checks. One you can work around (by using a VPN in a foreign country, they won’t know the Internet IP address of your location, but this does have inherent risks.) The second works for them because card numbers and Bank Accounts are identifiable by country of issue. Unfortunately it is not as though you can get a fan abroad to sign you up either as you can only have one login per account.
However flaky their system, they have made the act of purchasing passes fairly impressively foolproof.
