With unwanted Chris Whelpdale released by ‘mutual consent’ and returning to former club Stevenage, Neal Ardley now has his chance to add a fourth striker to his squad for the coming season. There has been some chatter [and I hasten to add I have no clue of the current situation] about a return of striker Michael Smith, who had an impressive loan…[Read more]

Further your last Singapore Don, understand Ardley thought he had signed experienced midfielder Jimmy Abdou. Abdou trained with the Dons, agreed a deal this week then took it to Millwall and signed a better deal with them. Other words it appears we were played off. Think Ardley may have had Abdou in mind when he talked of a first-choice…[Read more]

Many thanks Windlesham and Singapore for your much-appreciated efforts from the MtM. No doubt we are all much wiser for your insights/takeouts from the night. You take a look at last season’s signings: Clarke, Barnett, Whelpdale, Parrett, Whelpdale, Kelly stacked up against the list (so far) Appiah, McDonald, Oshilaja, Long, Kennedy and it’s…[Read more]

Expect two signings this week. The club has organised two hotel rooms so that indicates they are from outside London. Reports are that the Dons are interested in a season loan with Sheffield United goalkeeper George Long. Long has made 100 apps for the Blades but went out on loan to Oxford United and Motherwell in recent seasons. He made three L1…[Read more]

Word about there is a signing to be announced on Friday, but maybe not a GK!

Doing some quick sums, figure (if Reeves does leave for Bradford) then Wimbledon’s transfer kitty has about 500K from the sales of Bursik, Poleon and Reeves. That gives Ardley the chance to bolster the midfield and strikeforce in the coming weeks. Still awaiting confirmation of who the new goalkeeper will be. Negotiations were said to be close, so…[Read more]

Hearing that Jake Reeves is likely to leave, not sure what state the negotiations are at over a fee with Bradford City, but the simple arithmetic is that Jake comes off contract next season and we can cash in now or get nothing down the track. The trick for Ardley will be finding a suitable midfield replacement that’s in our budget. I get the…[Read more]

You might be on the right bus, Singapore, if this very revealing post on Instagram is what we think it is..

Further good news is the club is progressing well in negotiations with a goalkeeper. Word is “not sorted yet but getting closer.”

We should hear about our new striker today, Neal poised to get his man after missing on him previously.

Expect an imminent announcement on Joe Bursik’s new club, fee agreed subject to a medical.

Maybe a striker in this week, but apparently not a direct replacement for Tom Elliott… no names, no pack-drill.

Left-back Sean Kelly returns to Scotland to sign a two-year deal with Ross County. He becomes the third Don to find a new club after the end of the season, along with Tom Elliott (Millwall) and Dannie Bulman (returning for third stint at Crawley Town).

Two old faces – Kwesi Appiah and Deji Oshilaja – back with the Real Dons. So what are the chances of a third one? Some rumours (unverified) of interest in Ryan Jackson.. that still leaves a target man and goalkeeper to fill. But Neal Ardley has made an encouraging start to the off-season recruitment campaign. He has got his targets, it’ll just be…[Read more]

Windlesham – What did arouse my interest in your informative post was the mention that the new stadium may still be ready for the opening game of the 2019-20 season. Obviously a bit of water to flow under the bridge, but even with this delay (so far) we’re still talking August 2019.. anything further on that you can add?

  • onyadon replied to the topic The Lounge in the forum WDSA Forum 8 years, 11 months ago

Dan, while I would welcome Deji Oshilaja back at KM, I would query the budget (new stadium imposed) implications of carrying four first-choice centre backs for a club of AFC Wimbledon’s size. Unless Ardley sees another role for Deji, perhaps right-back? The club have to be very frugal in who we bring in this summer and we are most fortunate to…[Read more]

Strong mail that the Dons will be announcing their second signing this week, possibly on Wednesday. Apparently a medical is due to take place.
Elsewhere, Academy-raised winger Toyosi Olusanya has been released (no fee) and has trials lined up with Chelsea and Fulham.
The club is expecting England Under-17 goalkeeper Joe Bursik to leave but…[Read more]

Hearing that Neal Ardley’s name was mentioned at one stage in their compensation wrangling with Pompey over manager Paul Cook as a bargaining tactic. Contact says a few clubs see Ardley as a potential good’un. But while not in Pompey’s sights as Cook’s replacement (apparently it’s Kenny Jackett) was warned to make sure Ardley is contracted in case…[Read more]

It appears moves to sign the goalkeeper from the Championship have fallen through – looking elsewhere for a GK but away from the Championship.
Another development: Stoke City eyeing young Joe Bursik as a goalkeeping backup. Would be a fee involved if he were to go the Potteries.
