Certainly can howl over the handball ‘non’ penalty and the linesman flagging offside for Sunderland’s equaliser as yet again refereeing decisions went against the Dons. Yet another salient early season stat is the poor finishing by our forwards. Against Coventry City Wimbledon had 13 shots (BBC) for no return; against Walsall 21 shots for one goal…[Read more]

The buses have been pulling in with Neal Ardley making his seventh signing in 22-year-old centre-back Terell Thomas from Wigan Athletic. Thomas has only limited experience on loan at Sutton United and Woking, so suspect the gaffer will have another more battle-hardened CB in line or, if not, then the Dons are going to be short of nous at the back…[Read more]

Have been without the internet for three weeks (!) and it’s back on today and I’m fast catching up. So it seems with Neal Ardley with three signings in a week and all of them looking sound choices. So far six players in and maybe four more to come. There is a pattern with Ardley’s recruitment: faster, industrious players and aiming to get in…[Read more]

The Dons finally sign a player – six weeks after the final game of last season – Mitch Pinnock from non-league Dover Athletic, and lose Darius Charles sideways to Wycombe Wanderers with reports of Jon Meades is heading to Plymouth Argyle. Pinnock says his strong point “is putting crosses into the box”. That was an area the team struggled with last…[Read more]

We have made an offer for a young left-winger from non-league. A fee will be involved and another L1 club is interested, but understand the player doesn’t want to go to that non-London club and his agent is comfortable negotiating with the Wimbledon management. If terms are agreeable it could all be done this week. The club also have two strikers…[Read more]

Neal Ardley has made the necessary but difficult calls. Barry Fuller would have been a tough decision: the skipper, five seasons, 223 appearances. But the inconvenient truth is that Baz was struggling at times this season in defence. The gaffer would have had to consider whether Fuller at 35 in August would have held his spot in the first team…[Read more]

That was a gutsy point for the Dons at championship-chasing Wigan Athletic and leaves them just one point from mathematically securing their place in L1 next season with two games left. That draw means Wimbledon have taken 9/15 points in their last five crunch games, all against teams with something to play for. Doncaster Rovers away on Tuesday…[Read more]

A crucial win against Oxford United and more importantly a crucial three points towards the safety target. Another 9-10 points should do it and you would hope there is enough left in the squad to eke that out. It’s not going to come easy, this team struggles to get points. Looking ahead I would be hoping for points against Fleetwood Town (H),…[Read more]

I shuddered when I saw the 1-3 result at home to fellow relegation strugglers Northampton Town. That’s back-to-back defeats (and bad ones) to those teams we have to take points off and not donate to. It’s a bad time to suddenly lose form after the optimism of January. I wrote in the latest Wombles Downunder that it wouldn’t take much for edgy fans…[Read more]

Expect the new Chief Operating Officer to be announced this week by the Dons Trust. The COO will help the executive team manage the increased workload resulting from the new stadium project and will report to Erik Samuelson. The person has been serving out his time elsewhere and don’t be surprised if he is an Aussie.

I had my first look at the Dons in the televised game against Posh. Flying start, Lyle Taylor scores in opening 35 seconds, nice leadup from Forrester, but it soon became apparent that Peterborough were a much better footballing side and their goals came as no surprise. Although the first one came off the back of Barry Fuller’s shoulder in off the…[Read more]

Onpassing Windlesham Don’s FA Cup observations ..
We are in the hat for the next round, but I can take little more than that out of the game. This was as close as you could get to a joyless FA Cup win – quiet crowd, Lyle not celebrating his goal and a second half where we looked like the minnow clinging on for victory. This is against a team w…[Read more]

A great relief the Dons are in the hat for Monday’s second round draw of the FA Cup. It wasn’t expected to be pretty and it certainly wasn’t. But the bottom line: Wimbledon are still in the FA Cup after avoiding a first-round banana skin. The mood remains dire among the supporters. Many claimed it was again dross football and there appears a veil…[Read more]

This post from Windlesham Don..
The gloom around the fan base at the moment is like a damp, November, British pea-souper fog – chilling to the bone and with no sign of lifting…
There appears to be little cup fever around this game, and that is a terrible shame as the team and the fans will need to be at their best to overcome a Lincoln side…[Read more] -

Neal Ardley says the players gave everything against Charlton and I have no quibble about that. But yet again the Dons failed to score. That’s 10 times in 16 League games this season and a miserable goal tally of just nine, by the far the worst in L1. I am noticing a growing discontent with ‘Nil’ Ardley, significantly from long-time Dons…[Read more]

The dispiriting 3-0 loss at Oxford sapped a lot of confidence in Neal Ardley to hold on to his job. Sure, it is not yet (yet) time to remove the gaffer, but the clock is now well and truly ticking on what will be a wrenching decision for the Dons Trust and Club Executive. Neal likes to point to stats but the real stats are becoming painfully…[Read more]

Parrett looks well on the outer, particularly with Abdou and Trotter signed up and Ardley not even having Deano in the squad for the Mickey Mouse Cup this week. Get the impression we are top-heavy with midfielders, even more so with Tom Soares back in full training and back soon as well. Maybe Parrett was part of the equation to get Smudga to…[Read more]

Windlesham, if it helps in future, maybe save what you’re typing to avoid the timeout. I have had this problem some times and go back with the top left arrow to a previous screen and copy what’s there protectively and paste. See if that helps you next time.

I too was disappointed, Windlesham, that the Dons didn’t add the tall striker option in Michael Smith to the squad on deadline day. I understand the club could not meet his wage demands and moneybags Bury got him. We move on with what we’ve got at least until the next window in January.

Agree with an earlier close of the transfer window, Colum. You only have to see what damage the Coutinho speculation is doing to Liverpool with the season already underway. Get a conclusion to the transfer window before the season kickoff to stop all this unnecessary disruption.. same for Wimbledon as well.
