Singapore Don

Great, see you there Windlesham. A lot of catching up and forecasting to do over a beer or two! The squad is shaping up to look quite exciting- younger and taller, it will be great to get a glimpse of the future on Saturday.

Ok, I am feeling reinvigorated on the Dons front after what has been an exciting, busy burst of promising signings. The young defenders and the savvy but energetic new midfielders look to be great additions. We’re going to be a physically big strong team, all over the pitch. I’m actually looking forward to the season now, and to going to the Bri…[Read more]

What’s the news with Liam? I’d like to pass on congratulations too, but don’t know what they’d be for!

Good to read about the win yesterday. Have been feeling rather meh about the club, only reinforced by MTM which was really uninspiring, so I gave the game a miss (the £20 price tag ridiculous for a friendly). Enjoyed instead a fantastic family B…[Read more]

It wasn’t pretty, but it was a win and £18k for the January Desperately Needed Striker Fund. Grateful for small mercies, we did see a goal – though Lyle’s complete absence of celebration reflected the general malaise which is now gripping our club. Windlesham wrote eloquently of the pea souper fog-like gloom enveloping all Dons, and Rob too was…[Read more]

Glad you saw that Cobblers bogey beaten WD. Phew. Thanks to that single goal, Neal lives to fight another day. Pleased for him. But not out of the woods by any stretch of the imagination. Four points from next two games needed.

Frustratingly WD I can’t make it today. I’m at a long-standing function where I won’t even be able to listen to the WDON commentary; I’ll try to follow the game with sneaked glances at Twitter updates! I am going Tuesday evening. It would be great to catch up pre match then? Really hope we’ll be able to toast a return to the good, goal scoring…[Read more]

Today’s game has more resting on it than any I can remember for a long while. It’s a crunch day. A defeat, and I fear Neal Ardley’s time with us could be over. The Board may give him the Rotherham and Plymouth games for one last chance week – but I fear he’ll finally have lost the majority of the fan base if he doesn’t deliver today. We need…[Read more]

Happy days again! My first league game of the season, and what a great one (well great second half) for it to be. Two goals, a clean sheet, catching up with lots of olds Dons friends – including Windlesham and Liam – it was a wonderful day in the glorious Kingsmeadow sunshine. And my 2-1 win prediction was only just out, and all the better for…[Read more]

It would be a big call for Neal to drop his captain- but then he is a manager who talks a lot about the need to be brave. Time for a very brave decision? Putting Francomb in at right back would allow us to use another midfield player, of whom- as I said – we now have plenty. Robinson is more of a concern to me. We really need Charles back…[Read more]

I have mixed feelings on the Forrester signing. Clearly he’s an exciting addition, with possibly a few goals in him. But I worry about his being a disruptive presence, given reports ofhis wilder, partying side. And his being a midfielder, albeit an attacking one, seems to overload us in that department. I make that nine midfielders now in the…[Read more]

Another grey, wet setting for a pre-season friendly, what on earth has happened to our summer?? But there were rays of sunshine in the Dons’ play at Ebbsfleet, and it was a bright outcome with a deserved 2-1 win. I’m happy too to be able say that I was there for the very rare, lesser spotted Fuller goal – only his second in his time at Wimbledon…[Read more]

Hi Liam. Unfortunately O won’t see you at any of the first three games – I’m off in India and Pakistan for the 70th anniversary of Partition, but back till Aug 16. Great shame. How long are you in the UK? I went to Wycombe and am going to Ebbsfleet to see some Dons action and suss some of the new players. It would be great to see you at a game, so…[Read more]

Frustratingly I wrote a detailed report of tonight’s Burton game here – and it disappeared. Grrr! So suffice to say, it was a thoroughly entertaining game, all the more enjoyable for being watched alongside Windlesham Don. I can’t rewrite the detailed report, too late and tired, so in a nutshell:

Parrett was deservedly man of the match – very…[Read more]

So Neal did land his “first in the teams get” central midfielder – welcome Jimmy Abdou. Rather odd turn of events, seemingly have failed to get him when he re-signed for Millwall – but if we can keep him for the whole of the season long loan, this is fantastic news. A depth of experience – 200 games in the Championship, 120 in League One including…[Read more]

Another week has passed, and still no central midfielder signing. NA promised us a week ago at the MTM session that we’d get a “first name on the team sheet” CM signing, and I can’t help but wonder if he wasn’t banking on Millwall’s Jimmy Abdou – a free agent after refusing to sign a new contract at Millwall who has now gone and signed that new…[Read more]

Great stuff Windlesham, thanks – you really covered the MTM session superbly. As you said, the overarching impression for many was how lucky we are to have such thoughtful, honest, articulate and passionate manager of our club. Perhaps the one other question raised and to report was could we lose him any time soon given his appeal? No seemed to be…[Read more]

Reeves and Poleon, along with former Don Charlie Wyke, in Bradford side for first half against Vanarama National League North side Bradford Park Avenue. 0-3 down at half time. All three only played first 45 mins. The City eleven for second half kept it at 0-3. Not a glorious start for our former Dons/glory seekers.

A confidence boosting Meet the Manager session. Neal was refreshingly honest, articulate, intelligent, passionate – for my money, we’re lucky to have such an inspiring and down to earth manager. Rather than write a full report of the session, here are the notes I made on my iPhone in real time:

Goalkeepers – top 3 choices were loanees
    Shea and…[Read more]

Oh dear, Dom Poleon sharing a picture of an erstwhile Dons mate in Leeds on Instagram. Looks like it’s bye bye Jake Reeves.

  • Singapore Don replied to the topic The Lounge in the forum WDSA Forum 8 years, 9 months ago

This is why I’m disappointed to see Poleon go:
    http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/afc-wimbledon/top-scorers

His goals per minute best of the forwards. We’re left with the striker (I’m discounting Barnett!!)with the worst goals per minute ratio, although I accept his assists the best and overall work rate, defensive work etc probably the…[Read more]
