Good to have you back, Rumours!
Colum, I understand that Hanson struggled to settle down south with his family still up north, so the club agreed to cancel his contract. A shame as he seemed a good guy, but Wally could probably do better with his wages to spend.
As far as Sam Surridge is concerned, he looked good at Oldham for the first half of…[Read more]
As the dust settles on a tumultuous season, here is my guess on the ‘Wexit’ status of the squad:
All of the loanees – Jervis, Watson, Garrett, Folivi, Seddon and Ramsdale. There has been some debate about whether Seddon will stay, but I think it unlikely. Ramsdale and Seddon are the only ones who have contributed to the cause, but they…[Read more]
Never has an eight hour round trip for a skill-less borefest been so enjoyable…
“Two times out of non-league,
We’re never going to stop…”
We had one or two clear chances, as did Bradford, but that was it. As much time was spent looking at the scores from Southend and Plymouth as it was on the pitch. The final whistle was greeted with…[Read more]
A fine result on Saturday, although not a fantastic performance. This squad seems to possess a togetherness and a confidence that was missing a few months ago. Wally and Glyn must take the praise for the change.
My tickets for Saturday arrived today, so all set for the denouement of the season! I echo Singapore’s sentiment that this squad…[Read more]
I bought an iFollow match pass for Tuesday and it was money well spent (apart from the couple of years it will have taken off my life expectancy!)
Luton really did take us apart for large swathes of the game, with quick and incisive movement and passing. They were also dominant in both boxes.
Due to a combination of luck, last ditch defending…[Read more]
A couple of points from me regarding Friday’s match.
Firstly, mental fragility. If we do go down then it will be largely due to our inability to see out games where we have taken the lead. Friday was the third home game on the spin we have taken a lead and failed to hold on to it. When Rovers started to take control from the hour mark there was…[Read more]
Four heartstopping sets of 90 minutes remaining to determine the outcome of our season! The permutations are endless, so even for us supporters it is probably best to just concentrate on our fixtures and then see how the chips fall.
I feel that 6 points will be enough and 5 may be enough to see us safe, but whatever happens it is likely to come…[Read more]
I’ll be getting to the ground early on Friday if you want to have a pre-match chat over a beer?
Respond on here or give me a call on +44 7710142074.
Three points would be massive, but I’m not sure our young and nervy defence will be calm enough to keep out a Rovers side playing well away from home.
Liam/Rob, sadly I won’t be able to make the Oxford game due to a family commitment, but I’ll be at the Bristol Rovers game on Good Friday.
Can we make a plan to meet up pre-match to chew the fat – it would be great to catch up?
I’m doing nothing before the match so post on here if you can make it. I haven’t seen Singapore for a while, so…[Read more]
There has definitely been a change in mood around the club over the last couple of months. Wally and Glyn seem to have got the side more organised and more enthused. The players can see a way out of the pre-Christmas mire and they are intent on survival. The supporters are buying in to the attitude they are seeing on the pitch and are getting…[Read more]
A few key points IMO from Saturday’s match:
1. Having gone 1-0 up and having looked very good for the first 30 minutes, we seems to lose focus on the basics that had got us the previous four clean sheets. When Gillingham scored the equaliser it had been coming for a while as we had lost focus defensively.
2. Absolutely key to the result seemed…[Read more]
Another massive game for us today (aren’t they all from here on in?) The match has been sold out since the start of the week and the club have taken the unusual step of telling supporters not to bother going on the waiting list for tickets as it is too long!
The atmosphere should be great, but the match is too tight to call – we have a solid…[Read more]
Do I hear the theme from the Great Escape playing in the background? It certainly feels that way after another three points and another clean sheet.
A horrible gusty day and an uneven pitch made passing football difficult – basically playing into our hands. Southend were poor and obviously lacking in confidence after a poor run of results. We…[Read more]
Off to Roots Hall tomorrow for my first away trip for a while. If anyone is going along (Pete?) then I plan to pop in the Blue Boar for a drink and then across the road for local fish & chips before going to the ground!
Tuesday illustrated once again the confidence that a settled team, a set method of play and some decent results can bring.…[Read more]
Hope to see you over in April, Liam, and hope that the team is still hanging on in there for you!
Many thanks to John Marquis on Saturday for shooting himself and Doncaster in the foot! Up until his red card there was little between the sides, but them going down to 10 men was the boost we needed.
In contrast to Charlton in the previous home…[Read more]
IMO Saturday was a match that illustrated almost perfectly why we will not be plying our trade in League 1 next season.
45 minutes of high energy ‘up and at ’em’football, where we scored one, but weren’t clinical enough in front of goal to get a second. Followed by 45 minutes of being dominated, not having the ‘nous’ to break up Charlton’s…[Read more]
Agree with that summary Colum, but of course it is the hope that kills us!
What can we expect today – the Fleetwood/Burton experience, or the Walsall/Rochdale experience? Wally has talked about consistency, but during his two months in charge we have seen little of that. The defence is still woeful at times – just look at the goals conceded at…[Read more]
The other issue concerning me from last week was a tweet from ex-player Andy Frampton, suggesting that Downes was a terrible man manager and not a good long term appointment.
Now if this was posted by a young hot head, or by someone with a grudge against the club then it could be dismissed. But Frampton was always level headed and a model pro…[Read more]
