ELLIOTT WINS WDSA POTS

THE stark evidence of what AFC Wimbledon have lost for this coming season. The first two in the 2016-17 WDSA Player of the Season award—Tom Elliott and Jake Reeves — well and above the best two players according to members votes for last season and now both are gone to other clubs.

Big Tom was the clear-cut winner of WDSA’s 31st POTS award. He polled a whopping 88 votes — 15 major votes among them — to win the award hands down from midfield playmaker Reeves.

Jake polled a not-too-shabby 52 votes, including six majors — to fill second spot, with Captain Courageous Barry Fuller in third place with 14.

Elliott was a powerful figures in both boxes and he was keenly missed in the closing weeks of the season with injury when the Dons went the last six games of the campaign without a win and without a goal.

Elliott will be playing his football with newly-promoted Millwall in the Championship this season. We’ll be watching out how the big fella adapts to life in the higher league and maybe ruminating about what he could have been doing for us at some points during the new season.

The same can be expressed for Jake Reeves, but unfortunately for the Dons will be seeing him at least twice this coming season with League 1 rivals Bradford City after his transfer, triggered by a release fee in his contract, which had a year to run.
