TENACIOUS right-back BARRY FULLER has won the WDSA Player of the 2013-14 Season award.

The whole-hearted Fuller took out the 28th running of the WDSA award from fellow defender Andy Frampton.

In a season where the Dons struggled at times and in the end slumped to 20th place after heading into the New Year in 9th spot, Fuller was a shining light and a model of consistency.

One of Neal Ardley’s best signings when he joined from relegated Barnet at the start of last season, Fuller made the right-back spot his own and was acclaimed in other Dons’ supporters’ player awards.

Fuller polled a total of 72 votes to double the amount of votes from his nearest rival Frampton (36). Goalkeeper Ross Worner was third with 20 votes, just ahead of Sammy Moore (18).

WDSA contributor Tim Hanson (Bush Womble) said of Fuller: “Superb consistency all season. Brilliant work rate, energy and leadership and no shortage of quality. An inspiration to his teammates.” Ray Armfield added: “A clear winner of every award he was eligible for, the fact that he is so valued by both his dressing room peers and the supporters speaks volumes for his consistency of performance, tenacity and unswerving value on and off the pitch.”

Fuller becomes the ninth defender to win the WDSA season award and the first since Ben Judge in 2009-10. Fuller picked up 13 major votes in the poll; Frampton got five.
